The training that Ferncroft Environmental offers is what we do best, we do not offer every type of training available on the market, just that for which we can demonstrate competency in.

With over 30 years of real time hands on experience of working with asbestos, our competency is never in doubt, so it is only right that we deliver the training for which we specialise in - Asbestos’ and associated disciplines such as Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) and Confined Space Awareness.

We are fully audited members of UKATA, the UK Asbestos Training Association, and as one of the founding members have been instrumental in developing the high standards that has now become synonymous with asbestos training .

The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2010 make’s it a mandatory requirement for asbestos awareness training to be given to any persons who may be liable to disturb asbestos while carrying out their normal everyday work, or who may influence how work is carried out,

The regulations which are Statute and supported by an approved Code of Practice (ACoP) L143 ‘Work with materials containing asbestos’ make it absolutely clear that Asbestos awareness training is required to be given to employees whose work could foreseeably expose them to asbestos. In particular, it should be given to all demolition workers and those workers in the refurbishment, maintenance and allied trades where it is foreseeable that their work will disturb the fabric of the building because asbestos containing materials (ACM's) may become exposed during their work.

Regulation 10, Para; 124 determines that There are three main types of  information, instruction and training.

ASBESTOS AWARENESS TRAINING

This is for those persons who are liable to disturb asbestos while carrying out their normal everyday work, or who may influence how work is carried out, such as:

• general maintenance staff
• electricians
• plumbers
• gas fitters
• painters and decorators
• joiners
• plasterers
• demolition workers
• construction workers
• roofers
• heating and ventilation engineers
• telecommunications engineers

• fire and burglar alarm installers
• computer installers
• architects, building surveyors and other such professionals
• Shop fitters

TRAINING FOR NON-LICENSABLE ASBESTOS WORK

This is for those who undertake planned work with asbestos which is not licensable such as a roofer or demolition worker removing a whole asbestos cement sheet in good condition or analytical staff and asbestos surveyors.

TRAINING FOR LICENSABLE ASBESTOS REMOVAL WORKS

This is for those working with asbestos which is licensable such as removing asbestos insulation, asbestos coatings or asbestos insulating board.

These high standards of training that ‘UKATA’ audited and verified members work to has led to many of the leading health and safety specifiers, large organisations and corporate bodies requiring only UKATA trained personnel on site.

RPE COMPETENT PERSON TRAINING COURSE

In addition to the above we offer bespoke courses in Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) by way of our RPE Competent Person course which has been designed and based upon HSG 53 ‘Respiratory equipment for use at work’. The course is aimed at the asbestos removal industry both licensable and non licensable preparing the candidate with the knowledge to become the competent person for carrying out monthly mask inspections as required by regulation 13 ‘Maintenance of Control Measures’

CONFINED SPACE AWARENESS TRAINING COURSE

By the very nature of the work that is carried out by licensed asbestos removal contractors 99% of all works is carried out inside an enclosure with limited access by way of the airlock system. With limited access and in many cases only one access. Think of roof voids, undercroft and underground service ducts.

BRITISH OCCUPATIONAL HYGIENE SOCIETY (BOHS) COURSES

As a BOHS approved course provider Ferncroft Environmental have become one of the leading providers of the BOHS P402, BOHS P405 and BOHS P406 asbestos courses for asbestos surveyors, managing asbestos for the duty holder and for those who have responsibility for the supervision, management and waste disposal of asbestos.
